William Shatner is on Reddit! Who knew? Apparently not me.
In a recent TrekMovie article, “William Shatner Weighs In On ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ And Canon”, Shatner joined a discussion thread initially created as a parody of Trekkies who are afraid that CBS’s yet-to-air show Discovery will not follow the Trek history as already established by the franchise’s many television shows and movies. Shatner commented:
I just love how frazzled some of you get about canon. It’s a show and they are doing a prequel to something that was made 50 years ago. Star Trek was always more about the stories and messaging than the look. If they screw that up; roast em alive and kick em in the you know what! If they don’t; then enjoy it. Kirk out!
I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with Mr. Shatner, for I am a firm believer that as long as the tenets of Star Trek are honored, the window dressing of the content is superfluous. That isn’t to say I won’t be sitting an inch from my television screen come time for the first episode airing, alert for every little Trek Easter egg like a nerd. Oh, believe me, I will be paying attention.
But I also won’t elevate my expectations so high that I am certain to be disappointed. CBS, just give us a good, solid Star Trek series. Do your fact-checking and homework. Make it innovative. Make it fascinating.
That’s not too much to ask, right?

A woman Captain before Janeway and a woman First officer…it sounds interesting. Also I saw a picture of the Klingons and the they look very different from TOS Klingons and Worf era Klingons.
I agree with The Captain, the stories and message are the important thing in ST, not the look of it so much.
