Another huge difference in the Abrams verse between the three characters, is how obvious the close friendship between Kirk and Bones is, and how badly Spock treats Kirk throughout most of the three movies. Imo, that’s why the warp core scene and the Spock/Khan emotional debacle made very little sense in the W of K.
Abrams dropped the ball big time with character and plot in that movie.
